Goodfellows Bros. is a local Maple Valley contractor selected to perform the work, which is scheduled to begin during the last week of this month.

The contractor’s bid came in $1.6 million under the engineer’s estimated price for the project, and funds (in addition to a $1.25 million federal grant) will come from Maple Valley’s capital budget.

Project work will include:

  • building of a roundabout
  • extending curbs
  • gutters
  • sidewalks
  • bike lanes
  • drainage systems
  • landscaping South of Lake Wilderness Elementary past the Nazarene Church (on Witte Road)

Although it appears the contractor plans to keep the road open, significant delays should be expected. The City states that updated information will be posted to its website, and offers e-notifications that the public can sign up for.

A recent speed study of Witte Road showed that an unspecified number of drivers motoring up to 55 or 60 mph (the posted speed limit is 35 mph).
